MiMi’s Team of Gut-Friendly Bacteria

These enthusiastic little guys represent a probiotic strain known as Streptococcus thermophilus. They often grow in chains, because together they are better- just like people!
They are part of the team of good guys we love to see thriving within our gut microbiomes, and we can support them by consuming foods like yogurt with chia seeds in the morning.
When our microbes are happy, our minds are too- thanks to the fascinating connection of the gut and the brain, known as the gut-brain axis. The gut-brain axis works like a direct messaging system, constantly sending signals between your gut and your brain. When communication is balanced, neural regulation follows and that means better mood, focus, and overall well-being!

This happy little family represents the probiotic species known as Lactobacillus. There are several strains within this group that support immune function, digestive health, and microbiome balance. The most commonly used strains are L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, and L. plantarum. No single strain is better than another, but rather they coexist in harmony within a well-developed gut microbiome, each playing its part in promoting overall well-being.
These rod-shaped microorganisms often appear in small groups, like little families, and can be introduced through a diet containing fermented animal proteins like yogurt and cheese. Protein is essential for most of the body’s health maintenance functions, and consuming a protein-rich breakfast is one of the best tools for supporting sustained mood regulation and energy throughout the day.

These playful, Y-shaped probiotics represent Bifidobacterium longum. This cartoon is portrayed as the “youngest” of the featured strains, because it’s one of the most prevalent species in infants- making it one of our very first commensal organisms!
These tiny helpers are critical for healthy digestion, which is essential for a healthy mind- thanks to the gut-brain axis. Some of the earliest microbiome studies highlight the impact of digestion on mental health, reminding as that humans are naturally cyclical beings: we must consume and digest to grow into the superheroes we’re meant to become.
Fun sources of this probiotic strain include fermented foods like sauerkraut, kefir, and sourdough bread. Yum! As their excitement suggests, a balanced gut microbiome is the key to a happier, healthier you- from the inside out 😀
